Rosalia Vila Tobella[2] (born 25 September 1992),[3] known mononymously as Rosalia (Spanish: [rosa'li.a], Catalan: [ruz@'li.@]),[4][5][6] is a Spanish singer. She was was raised in Barcelona. Her diverse music style has earned her the moniker of "atypical pop star". [9] At the age of 13, she fell in the love of Spanish folk music. She then studied musicology at Catalonia College of Music. She also performed at weddings and music bars. Combining flamenco, hip hop and pop The album was followed by "Malamente" (single) and "Pienso in tu Mira (single). Both singles became hugely popular and garnered a lot of critical praise. Rosalia has had a record of ten top-ten singles in her career, all in her native country. It's the highest number for an artist hailing from the region. Two Grammy Awards, eleven Latin Grammy Awards (including two Album of the Year nominations) Four MTV Video Music Awards and three UK Music Video Awards have been awarded to Rosalia. Rosalia also won two Premio Ruido Awards. Billboard presented her with the Rising Star Award, in 2019, for "changing the music of today's popular songs by introducing her unique flamenco-infused pop". [18] She also became the first Spanish-singing group to be recognized as Best New Artist at Grammys. Rosalia was born on 25 September 1992 in Sant Cugat del Valles and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires,[20][21][22] Baix Llobregat, Catalonia. She was born in a family with no artistic heritage and is the youngest daughter of Pilar Tobella who runs a small family business that is specialized in metalworking. Jose Manuel Vila was her father. He was born in Cudillero (Asturias). They divorced in 2019. Her 23-year-old older sibling, Pilar "Pili" Vila (born 1989) and works alongside Rosalia as her stylist and creative director. Rosalia discovered her love for the performing arts when she was a young girl and was particularly interested when she came across the discography of Camaron de La Isla. She started her musical education at Taller de Musics. She completed a six-year program at the academy. She began her studies at the Raval school and later transferred to the Superior School of Music of Catalonia. In addition, she worked as an independent singer at weddings and in bars with musical music where she was paid "a just over 80 euros, or as a payment for dinner".
